Whether you are headed out with your dog or staying in to greet the trick-or-treaters, here are some great Halloween saftey tips for pets from Dogster and the ASPCA.
Wishing you a safe and happy Halloween!
Rokko’s World, located in the gorgeous historic downtown area of Hastings (map), is a new pet supply store with a focus on Minnesota made pet products. (Three cheers for going local!) This Friday evening, Rokko’s World is throwing a pet-friendly Halloween party for their grand opening. Two and four-legged friends of all sizes are welcome to join in the festivities at the shop from 6-8 pm, and I will be on hand to photograph all the crazy-costumed furry ones in attendance. I even heard that Rokko himself will be there!
And, to brighten your cloudy-grey Minnesota afternoon, some sunny shots I grabbed of the beautiful Hastings scenery yesterday.

We hope to see you Friday night!

Even when I come home to this…

Because, afterall, I left it within her reach, and I know all about her love for all things plastic (like TV remotes and cell phones)…and seriously, you try staying mad at that face…

::sigh:: I love my dog.
P.S. The hard drive still works.![]()

A few things for both the pet-lovers and the photographers that I’ve spied around the web…
All American Dog Fest – Sunday, October 25 at the West St Paul Armory Training and Community Center (map). An event hosted by MN Bully Lovers designed to ” bring together the Twin Cities dog community to celebrate all breeds of dogs while highlighting positive traits of the American Pit Bull Terrier”. The event is free, and well-behaved dogs of all breeds are welcome to attend.
P.S. Phaneuf and I will be wandering about the event, so if you spy us make sure to say “Hi!” (If you do, Phaneuf promises to dole out lots of slobbery kisses!)
Sidewalk Dog – Certainly not a new find for me, but definitely a must share. Sidewalk Dog is THE Twin Cities directory for pet-friendly business and pet related events. Subscribe now and receive the latest news in your inbox, then make sure to head over and check out the interactive map of dog parks and dog-friendly dining spots in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.
Maggie’s Light Candles by Nellie Designs. – A great gift for any pet lover, but especially perfect for those who have suffered a recent pet loss. The candles come with a variety of different collars and an aluminum tag that can be personalized with your choice of quote. One dollar from the sale of each candle (in MN) goes to Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of MN.
Stray Dog Arts in Mpls St Paul Magazine - Twin Cities own pet artist, Jessie Marianello is featured in the “Custom Made” article in the November issue of Mpls St Paul Magazine (on newstands now!).
And for my fellow photographers…
What Every Aspiring Photographer Should Know by Cheryl Nicolai – This kind of hit the Twitter world by storm over the last couple of days, but I had to include it. Great advice and something worth reading more than once.
Last, but not least, a photo of one of my favorite girls, Susie Q…formal introduction to come soon. Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks to a mutual friend, I have had the pleasure of knowing Isaac since he was just a little white ball of fluff. He is the first “giant” dog I ever spent significant time with, and my experiences with Isaac were often recalled when my husband, Ryan, and I were making our decision to get a giant of our own.
When we had our session together it had been about five years since I had last seen Isaac. It was so nice to see him again, and to catch up with Kara. The two of us shared lots of stories about owning a large dog…fielding questions about our dogs’ eating habits (no they don’t eat that much) and shedding tendencies (yep, we have fur–and drool–everywhere), finding new ways to laugh off the “Oh my gosh I thought that was a bear!” comments, and explaining to people that it is not at all necessary to have a large house or yard in order to have a large dog.
We started our morning together near the river in Stillwater and then moved to Kara and Isaac’s home for some unleashed photos in the backyard. While I always enjoy home sessions (it is where the heart is afterall), it was lots of fun to be able to wander the town with the two of them. I love that I was able to get some photos of Isaac and Kara together. Let me repeat: I LOVE when clients want to be included in the photos with their pets! (*hint, hint*) I honestly think that you can not go wrong by getting some images of the two and four-legged family members together, and I guarantee that those photos will become priceless to you as the years go on.
It was difficult to narrow them down, but here are a few of my favorites from Isaac’s session…
