thursday thanks: community

If you’re a regular reader of blogs, then I’m sure you’re aware that taking some time out (especially on a Thursday) to show gratitude is not exactly a new idea.  Well, I’m jumping on the gratitude bandwagon folks, and the way I see it, if you’re going to be on a bandwagon, the gratitude wagon is the place to be!  My plan is to take some time over the next eight weeks to celebrate the spirit of “the holidays” by sharing some things in my life that I am thankful for…AND, I’m going to do my best to make sure they are not all about Phanuef.:)

This week, I am extremely thankful for the photography community.  The generosity and sharing, the cheerleading and constructive criticism.  The “if I knew then what I know now” stories.  I am ever-amazed to find myself amongst such a wonderful group of people, and I am thankful for the encouragement and the shoulders to lean on that I’ve been given thus far.

Emma the Lab

Emma is a happy dog.  She has a tail wag that gets her whole back end a swayin’ when she’s excited (which, as a Lab, I suspect is quite often).  Of course it doesn’t hurt that her people absolutely adore her.  Whenever I see Jen and Dave it is inevitable that we swap dog stories.  Anyone who has spent time around me knows that I don’t last long without talking about my girl, and I’m not going to lie, I enjoy being around people who can appreciate those stories and enjoy jumping in with their own.  Jen and Dave are those kind of people…their love for Emma shows with every antic and adventure they share.

Here are a few images from our evening playing together in the backyard…

susie q: the wonder dog

This summer my husband, Ryan, and I went on our first vacation together to visit my brother, his girlfriend, and their German Wirehaired Pointer, Susie Q, in the mountains of Idaho.  I could go on and on about how much fun we had, how good it was to spend some time with them, and how absolutely beautiful the scenery was…but this post is about Susie Q.

Kevin and Kari spent the summer managing a small resort along the Salmon River in Stanley, Idaho, and while I’m not sure they would say it was their perfect summer, I think we could all agree that Susie had it pretty good.  For the most part, Susie had free run of the land, plenty of people to throw her beloved tennis balls for her, lots of chipmunks to sniff out, and plenty of hikes through the mountains.  Life was really rough.:)

One afternoon Kevin and Susie took Ryan and I on a hike into the Sawtooth Mountains.  To say I was amazed at Susie’s endless energy would be an understatement.  As Ryan and I huffed and puffed our barely-above-sea-level lungs up the mountain trail, Susie literally did laps around us.  When we reached our destination we joked that in the time it took us to get there, Susie could have been up and down the mountain three times if we weren’t there holding her back.

Believe me when I say that below is a very pared down assortment of the pictures I have from our trip.  We can’t wait to go back!
