secondhand hounds: fostering change

A few weeks ago I met up with three volunteers from Secondhand Hounds, a local rescue organization based in Minnetonka. We chatted, played, and took some photos for them to use at their silent auction event coming up this Saturday. In less than one year, Secondhand Hounds has had over 270 dogs come through their organization, which is an absolutely astounding feat! If you happen to be friends with them on Facebook, you know that SHH is a 24/7 job for Rachel Mairose who truly puts her heart and soul into helping these animals in need.

I had a tremendous amount of fun working with these ladies and encourage everyone to check out their silent auction at Braemer Golf Course in Edina on Saturday evening, for food, drinks, music, and of course your chance to win a session with Lucky Mutt Photography while helping a great organization! If you can’t make it to the event you can still bid on the auction items through 7pm Saturday evening by visiting 32auctions.com, entering “SHHAuction” as the Auction ID and “helpdogs” as the Auction Password. If you aren’t outbid at the event, you’re the big winner!

melissa oholendt - Oh rescue dogs. You have my heart little pups. I love you.

Becky - Awww, Stacey! Moose has already found his home–although I did almost sweep him away for myself when I saw him! According to his test he’s a Rottie/German Shepherd mix. He’s definitely going to be a big boy.

Stacey - Becky! We MUST have the brown one… his coloring looks just like Bromley who passed, but a totally different breed mix. Can you fit him in your pocket while we drive out??

Rachel - Thank you so much, Becky! You captured some great moments :) We appreciate it so much!

two dog weekend | life in pictures

My parent’s Pudelpointer, Kasota, stayed with us over the weekend, and once again confirmed that we made the right decision when opting to get a large, lazy dog for our tiny home. Hunting dogs have a different energy (and agility) level, that a big ol’ Newfie just can’t compete with. Any energy reserves that Phaneuf had stored away with her all day napping sessions during the week were quickly depleted, but she still played like a champ until her friend went home Sunday night. Today, on the other hand, she has opted not to move unless absolutely necessary.

Below is a rare still moment of the two dogs together, quickly followed by yet another round of body slamming, backyard Wrestlemania.
