  • My life. My photos. My blog

Hi there, and welcome to my blog! As a pet photographer I am truly blessed to be able to witness and capture that special bond that people have with the pets in their lives. This blog is my way of giving back a little piece of myself to those who are kind enough to welcome me into their lives and their homes. In these pages I hope to share the everyday moments, photos, and stories, from my own life, that make me tick, as well as a few beautiful images of the wonderful relationships I am asked to capture along the way.

Please feel free to plop down on the couch with a big, warm blanket before reading...I wouldn't have it any other way. -Becky

Help Nutrena help pets in need | the pet project

It is no secret that I love The Pet Project. Their goals and the heart of the organization inspire me. Today, the below video from Nutrena was shared on The Pet Project Facebook page. If the video is viewed 10,000 times before April 30th, 2010, Nutrena (a division of Cargill, for the locals) will donate another truckload of food to Twin Cities pets in need.

(video embedded)

As Kim says in the video, “The greatest thing about it is that, it’s nice to know that people are starting to recognize that pets are part of the family. You can’t address hunger in a household without addressing the entire family.” Please take 4 minutes and 16 seconds to watch this video. It will help people and pets keep moments like these a part of their lives.

Paws for the Park | Friends of Stillwater Dog Park

Friends of Stillwater Dog Park is an organization focused on creating and sustaining a fenced, off-leash dog park in the Stillwater area that will promote responsible dog ownership in the community.  Currently, the organization is busy creating awareness of their initiative to show the city of Stillwater that there is a formally organized group of volunteers committed to supporting and maintaining a dog park in the area.

Tomorrow evening (Saturday, February 27), Friends of Stillwater Dog Park is having a benefit event, Paws for the Park at The Town Hall at Boutwells Landing in Oak Park Heights.  I am happy to say that Lucky Mutt Photography has donated one Everyday Session to the silent auction at this event which will also include drawings, wine, appetizers, and live music.

For more information on the Paws for the Park fundraiser or to help Friends of Sillwater Dog Park, visit their website, complete their survey, or join the group on Facebook.

keeping pets and people together

As with my last post, I’ve been meaning to get this one on the blog for a while. I’ve had it posted over here for quite some time, but haven’t made an official announcement. As I mentioned before, the beginning of this year has given me a great filter for making decisions about my business. That filter is knowing where my heart is, and really understanding why I’m in this game. Going into 2010 I knew I wanted to start giving back to the pet community through Lucky Mutt Photography, and the first thing I did was search for an organization that really fell in line with the “why” of my business.

Let me tell you, I didn’t have to look very hard. If you were reading the blog in December, you might remember that I had a Pounds per Comments food drive to benefit The Pet Project. I love everything about this organization, and I knew right away that I wanted to help them in any way that I could. As explained in their mission statement, “The Pet Project helps people keep their pets by providing pet food and basic supplies to those who are struggling. The Pet Project also provides connections to basic veterinary care and information on finding pet-friendly housing.” What really gets to me though is this part of their why, “We would really like to change the way the world thinks about relationships with pets and the role they play in our lives. The lessons of empathy, compassion, and responsibility that our pets can teach us shouldn’t have to be lost due to poverty or unexpected life circumstances.”

Hook. Line. Sinker. I’m sold.

The Pet Project MN

Ten percent of all Lucky Mutt Photography
2010 session fees will be donated to The Pet Project.

Amongst other plans I have to help out this organization, I’m happy to announce that I will be donating 10% of all Lucky Mutt Photography session fees to The Pet Project in 2010.  That means, while I help you celebrate your relationship with your pets, you are helping someone in need keep their pets in their life by helping them get the food and veterinary services they so badly need.

Of course, The Pet Project isn’t the only nonprofit I plan to help this year.  On the left side of this site there is a *new* Events tab listing upcoming events that Lucky Mutt Photography will be participating at, including fundraising events for local, pet-related nonprofit organizations.  If you, or someone you know works with a pet-related nonprofit group in need of donations or photography services, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  In addition,  individuals who volunteer for a local, pet-friendly nonprofit organization will receive a $100 credit towards their product purchases when they book an Everyday or Year-in-the-life session.  (Please note that this includes homes with service and/or therapy dogs.)  It is really the least I can do for those who dedicate a part of their lives to giving the best life possible to the pets we cherish.

Christmas Thanks: Spirit of Giving | pounds per comments

Yep, I know, it’s Wednesday, not Thursday. I also know that tomorrow many of you will be busy doing much more important things (hopefully enjoying time with your family and friends) than reading the Lucky Mutt blog. So, before the holiday festivities begin, I wanted to make sure to thank everyone who commented on the blog during pounds per comments. There were twenty comments left, which means I will be donating twenty pounds of pet food to The Pet Project…but, here’s the thing…I want more.

So, for today only (December 23, 2009), I will donate two pounds of dog and/or cat food per comment left on the blog* (any post, and feel free to comment more than once) to The Pet Project, an organization dedicated to helping people keep their pets by providing pet food and basic supplies to those who are struggling. Please join me in helping these people and pets in need by leaving a comment!

To everyone who stops by over the next few days, happy holidays from our home to yours, and if you are in the midwest, we wish you safe travels through the upcoming snow storm!

*As previously stated, as much as my heart wishes I could donate endless amounts of food to these pets and people in need, my pocketbook requires a ceiling. This year the maximum amount of food I will be able to donate is 100 lbs. Thank you!

thursday thanks: holiday spirit | pounds per comments

I LOVE the holiday season – and with ten years of working in retail under my belt, that says a lot!! Every year I get swept up in the first snowfall, the twinkle lights on neighborhood homes, the plethora of must-watch Christmas movies, and the music. (Yep, I love me some Christmas tunes.) Call me crazy, but I even enjoy the satisfaction of finding a gift I know someone will love…and I love wrapping Christmas presents. Of course, I completely blame my parents (and grandparents) for this crazy-Christmas love, as the winter holidays of my childhood were always filled with a sense of magic.

Now, I’m not saying I’m immune to the holiday stresses, or that every year is filled with picture-perfect holiday memories, but I will say that I find it darn near impossible to be a Scrooge this time of year, and for that I am incredibly thankful.

Inspired by the fantastic Gina Zeidler (of Zeidler Photography), this year I hope to spread some extra holiday cheer by participating in an animal friendly version of Cans for Comments.

Here’s how it works…

  • Today through December 17th, I will donate one pound of dog or cat food for every comment left on this blog.*
  • Comments can be left on any post on the blog.
  • All food donations will go to The Pet Project, a Twin Cities organization dedicated to helping people keep their pets by providing pet food and basic supplies to those who are struggling.

Please help make a difference for those in need this holiday season by leaving lots of comments in the next week!
